Year 4NMcN Big Schools’ Birdwatch

2nd Feb 2026

Last week was the annual date of the RSPB Birdwatch. With storm Chandra in the forecast, pupils watched patiently out the windows for the storm to clear and for more birds to enjoy our school grounds. We used our ICT skills to explore the RSPB website, listening to the sounds of local birds and reading the facts and figures gathered which show bird populations in Northern Ireland.

We took several short walks around the school setting and viewed the birds in the forest, the higher trees and in the lower bushes. Our pupils were so enthusiastic, with lots of pupils bringing in their own binoculars every day last week.

On Friday we used our results in our Handling Data lessons to create hand drawn bar charts and also created tables and charts on JIT5. We even displayed some of our work on our Numeracy proud wall.

Well done everyone!
