6OBCH Science Week

10th Mar 2026

Year 6OBCH have made a brilliant start to Science Week!

We learned about the famous Irish scientist Francis Beaufort, researched his life and work and created digital fact posters to share our findings. We then explored how wind can be used to produce energy and improve lives in countries such as Sri Lanka.

Pupils planned, designed and built their own wind turbines to lift a small weight, testing and improving their ideas along the way. Teamwork was fantastic and everyone learned so much from the process.

We also took part in the BBC Teach Science Week Live Lesson, where we learned that light travels in straight lines, how we see objects, how to identify light sources, why it’s unsafe to look directly at the Sun and how mirrors can be used creatively to reflect light.
